Harvest III, a program from United States cooperation – USAID – to support the development of agricultural production and processing in Cambodia, has once again selected Confirel to benefit from its financial support, it was announced last month.
The commitments made by Confirel to benefit from USAID support are broken down into four components: development of new products and new production lines, strengthening of food safety standards at its production site, contribution to in training of farmers to pre and post production in pepper, palm sugar, mango and cocoa sectors, signing of supply contracts with farmers and producer associations.
The grant awarded to Confirel will help the company develop to fulfill its long-standing mission of contributing to increasing farmers’ income by offering consumers high-quality food products that are beneficial for their health.
This is the second time that Confirel has been selected by Harvest III, proof if any were needed that the company is a leading player in Cambodia’s rural development and its food independence.
Launched in 2022 for a period of 5 years, Harvest III, also known as Feed The Future Cambodia Harvest III, is a $ 25 million program aimed at promoting sustainable and widespread economic growth by increasing the diversification and competitiveness of the Cambodian agricultural sector. It is funded by the US government’s Feed the Future initiative and managed by USAID.
“The U.S. government has invested nearly $100 million over the past decade to improve both the nutrition and incomes of families in Cambodia by strengthening the country’s agricultural sector,” Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy had said on day of the launch of this program. In this global food crisis, it is critical that Cambodia strengthens its food security and Harvest III reflects the U.S. government’s commitment to this goal.”
Harvest III works with agricultural cooperatives, technology providers, financial institutions and other stakeholders to develop a skilled workforce, create jobs and seize market opportunities in the agricultural sector by working with the sector private. The project builds on investments already made by USAID/Cambodia to promote sustainable economic opportunities and climate-smart agricultural technologies. By collaborating with companies working in agricultural markets, the project helps improve the livelihoods of Cambodians, particularly women, youth and marginalized populations.
Over this five-year period, USAID plans to generate $38 million in new private sector investment, create more than 3,000 jobs, help businesses and agricultural producers access $15 million in financing related to agriculture and generate $100 million in sales.
